Welcome to Tropfest-Winning Hyperdriven!

Not one, but TWO Hyperdriven films at the Heart of Gold International Film Festival!

The Heart of Gold International Film Festival 2007 (HGIFF) showed not one, but TWO Hyperdriven-shot films at the event in Gympie, Queensland.

The HGIFF is one of Australia's fastest-growing film festivals showcasing films from all over the world.

There were two films shot by Hyperdriven cinematographer Ian Nicholson in the final selected playlist. They were:-

'Between the Flags' - Director Jayce White

'Point Blank' - Director Maggie Lawrence

Hyperdriven Wins at Tropfest 2007!

'Between the Flags' wins Best Comedy and Best Male Actor Accolades!

Writer/Director Jayce White engaged Ian Nicholson of Hyperdriven to shoot his Tropfest 2007 Award-Winning Entry 'Between the Flags'.

"I'd like to give special thanks to Ian Nicholson for making the film look so pretty!" he said as he collected his award for Best Comedy in front of 150,000 onlookers at this year's event.

White contacted the Hyperdriven office on the 2nd January, with just NINE DAYS left before the final Tropfest deadline.

"I wasn't sure we would do it" said Nicholson, "but when I read the script, I called Jayce back to tell him we HAD to make this movie!"

Two days later, White, Nicholson and the cast; Daniel Feuerriegel (McLeod's Daughters) and Rap Artist/DJ Matuse (SBS - Jammin' in the Middle E) met up for the first time and got shooting on a Sydney Northern Beaches location.

They shot everything in just six hours.

"We were so lucky." said Nicholson, "the weather was perfect and the actors gave brilliant performances which made my job all the easier."

White took the tapes away for editing and the music was provided by Matuse's band - Pearl Black Nation.

The film can be seen on the Tropfest 2007 DVD - given free with the Sydney Morning Herald on Feb 24th 2007, and on the Tropfest Video website from Feb 25th.

So what do I do next?

Simple!

We'll do our absolute best to make your film-making experience a total pleasure. In fact, there's nothing better than getting out of bed early in the morning knowing you're going to make a movie! It's the best feeling in the world.

However, a movie doesn't just 'happen' and there's a few things you should prepare beforehand.

Here's our top-ten tips for making your movie-making weekend go smoothly:

1) Get a good script! In two days you could feasibly shoot a ten-minute movie. That's 10-pages of a properly formatted script. Have several people brutally review it!
2) Cast your actors (go to www.screenactorsworkshop.com.au if you need great talent!) Make sure your cast have fully rehearsed and learned their lines. Make plenty of time for rehearsals prior to the shoot (there's nothing worse than getting everyone together on the day only to find an actor that hasn't learned the script!)
3) Choose your locations (ideally, keep it down to two or three locations).
4) Contact us and make your booking.
5) Plan your days. Schedule which scenes you're going to shoot, where and when. Remember, a movie isn't necessarily shot in the order it is viewed.
6) Hold a pre-production meeting before the shoot - make sure everyone knows what they must do on the day.
7) Consider continuity - especially if taking breaking overnight from shooting. A digital camera can be invaluable in capturing the look of your sets and actors for the next day's shoot.
8) Follow W.C. Fields' advice - avoid working with children and animals!
9) Remember to FEED your crew on the day! Arrange for snacks and refreshments throughtout the day.
10) Get out, have fun and MAKE A MOVIE!!!
